Area 419’s Hellfire Self Timing Muzzle Brake is engineered for .338 caliber rifles, supporting any bullet caliber up to and including .338—such as .338 WM, .338 LM, .338 NM, and .338 Edge. (For ultimate reduction, see their Sidewinder brake.)
Installation is straightforward and innovative. The brake will not turn as you torque the collar to lock, eliminating guesswork about port alignment once tightened. A simple round knurled nut requires no tools to time the brake. Return to zero is excellent—removing and reinstalling the brake will not require a zero change.
Installation proceeds as follows: torque the universal adapter onto your barrel using a 5/8″ wrench (this piece never needs removal). Next, LEFT HAND thread the brake/collar assembly onto the adapter until nearly snug. Rotate the brake until level, push it into the adapter until you feel it lock onto the taper, then tighten the collar fully by hand.
The Hellfire features rearward-facing ports for maximum recoil reduction. In independent testing side by side with leading market brakes, the Hellfire demonstrated 52% recoil reduction on a 6.5 Creedmoor test rifle—approximately 4% more than one of the most popular brakes on the market. Its proprietary port design controls muzzle rise without top porting. The brake face is engraved with caliber designation to indicate the top for correct orientation and includes a horizontal line to aid in leveling.
Built from heat-treated 17-4PH Stainless Steel and manufactured on state-of-the-art CNC machines in NW Ohio, this brake is 100% Made in USA. The Black Nitride finish brake pairs with a black universal adapter; raw stainless finishes are also available. The brake measures 1″ OD with a 1.1″ OD collar and adds 2.6″ from the thread shoulder (approximately 2″ added to OAL of barrel).
