The Xtreme Hunter rounds from Underwood Ammo evolved from the successful Xtreme Defender line. Like the XD, these .45-70 Government cartridges feature an optimized nose flute, but the 325 grain solid monolithic design shifts the performance envelope toward maximum penetration depth and permanent wound cavity (PWC) expansion. The PWC produced exceeds 100% larger than conventional expanding bullets, and terminal performance remains consistent even after passing through barriers. The solid copper construction resists deformation from thick hide, bone, and other obstructions, maintaining wound channel integrity throughout.
Underwood Ammo loads these rounds in nickel-plated brass casings. The nickel plating improves feeding reliability across all firearm actions, delivers superior corrosion resistance compared to standard brass, enhances appearance, and simplifies reloading cleanup. Unlike untreated brass, nickel-plated cases resist tarnishing during storage and when exposed to leather, moisture, and other metals.
All Underwood Ammo products use flash suppressed powder to preserve vision when firearms must be deployed in low-light conditions. This high-performance ammunition is field tested using popular firearms that customers actually use in the field.
