The Brownells 5° 44 Caliber Barrel Chamfering Plug Gauge is an essential gunsmithing tool designed for precise measurement of barrel forcing cones. Each gauge is self-piloted, precision-ground, hardened and stepped to show minimum and maximum optimum diameters. The gauge has an integral pilot to assure precise alignment with the axis of the bore and to minimize measurement error.
This 5-degree gauge is designed specifically for Ruger-style revolvers and complements Brownells chamfering cutters. There is a very narrow (.004″) throat diameter range where maximum accuracy is obtained, and by simply slipping the plug gauge into the barrel throat, it’s possible to tell at a glance when you are approaching the correct diameter. The gauge is also valuable as a diagnostic tool for guns brought in with accuracy complaints, designed for chamfers cut with Brownells tools.
