The Area 419 Sidewinder Magnum is a self-timing muzzle brake engineered for .338 caliber rifles with rearward-facing ports designed to maximize recoil reduction. Installation is straightforward: torque the included universal adapter onto your barrel using a 13/16″ wrench, then LEFT HAND thread the brake/collar assembly onto the adapter until nearly snug. Rotate the brake until level, push it into the adapter until you feel it lock onto the taper, and tighten the collar fully by hand—no guessing required about port alignment.
The brake features a proprietary port design that controls muzzle rise without top porting. Its progressive port design increases the size of the first port and decreases slightly with each successive port, keeping overall length down while maintaining efficiency. The face of the brake is engraved with caliber designation and includes a horizontal line to aid in leveling. Return to zero is excellent, meaning removal and reinstallation will not require a zero change.
The Sidewinder is modeled after Area 419’s HELLFIRE brake, which demonstrated 52% recoil reduction on a 6.5 Creedmoor test rifle—approximately 4% more than one of the market’s most popular brakes. The Sidewinder features one additional port and larger diameter than the HELLFIRE, providing a notable increase in recoil reduction. A simple round knurled nut requires no tools to time the brake, and suppressor mounts like those available for the HELLFIRE will be offered soon.
Constructed from heat-treated 17-4PH stainless steel and manufactured on state-of-the-art CNC machines in NW Ohio, the Sidewinder is 100% Made in USA. It features a 1.125″ OD brake with a 1.275″ OD collar, measures 3.35″ in length and adds approximately 2.75″ to barrel length, with a combined weight of brake and adapter of 7.5oz. Available in Black Nitride finish or raw stainless, with all universal adapters in black.
