The key difference lies in the SMR’s single-caliber design—it arrives factory-set in .308 Winchester, eliminating the interchangeable barrel system of the standard MRAD. This allows Barrett to optimize the rifle around a free float barrel secured to the upper receiver via standard barrel nut. The fixed, non-folding stock incorporates a vertically adjustable cheek piece and separate spacers for length of pull customization, reducing unnecessary weight and length without sacrificing functionality.
