Barrett’s MRAD line has earned its reputation, and the new Single Mission Rifle (SMR) brings that proven design philosophy into a streamlined package. Built with precision and modularity at its core, the SMR performs equally well on the range or in duty applications, delivering .75 MOA accuracy in a simplified configuration that shares 90% parts commonality with the standard MRAD.
The SMR designation reflects a key difference: unlike the interchangeable barrel capability of the standard MRAD, this rifle comes from the factory configured in a single caliber. The 338 Lapua Magnum chambering pairs with a 26″ fluted barrel held free-floating in the upper receiver via a standard barrel nut. This design choice contributes to a noticeably lighter and more compact rifle—nearly 2½ lbs lighter and 1 inch shorter than the standard MRAD.
The fixed stock features a vertically adjustable cheek piece and separate spacers for length of pull customization, eliminating the folding mechanism of the standard model. The bolt-action repeater feeds from a 10-round capacity magazine and rides a 21.75″ rail with 10 MOA. With an overall length of 48.5″, twist rate of 1:9.4″, and a weight of 12.3 lbs, the SMR delivers precision and modularity in a lighter, more manageable platform finished in Tungsten Grey.
