The Ruger “Texas Orange” AR-556 is built on a flat-top upper receiver machined from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum forging, featuring a forward assist dust cover and brass deflector. The custom orange distressed receiver finish sets this rifle apart visually while maintaining function.
The backbone of this rifle consists of shot-peened and proof-tested 9310 steel bolt paired with an 8620 steel bolt carrier. Chrome plating on the inside diameter of the carrier and gas key, combined with a staked gas key, ensures long-term durability and reliability.
The medium contour cold hammer-forged alloy barrel measures 16.10″ with a 1:8″ right-hand twist and 5 grooves. It feeds 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem. ammunition equally well through M4 feed ramps and a 5.56 NATO chamber, and handles bullets from 35 to 77 grains with exceptional accuracy. The barrel features a matte black oxide finish with a 1/2″-28 Ruger flash suppressor to reduce glare and resist corrosion.
Sighting options include an adjustable A2-style F-height front sight post (elevation-adjustable with tool included) that co-witnesses with many optics, paired with a Ruger Rapid Deploy folding rear sight offering windage adjustability. This combination provides a solid and reliable aiming system.
The carbine-length (M4) gas block is positioned for improved balance and handling, with serrations on the angled face providing a low-glare surface. Multiple attachment points—including a QD socket and bayonet lug—accommodate various sling and accessory options. The heat-resistant glass-filled nylon handguard is easily serviced by one person using the barrel nut and delta ring with a standard wrench, and accepts most standard carbine-length handguards.
A single-stage trigger provides reliable fire control, while an enlarged trigger guard permits gloved operation in cold weather. The ergonomic pistol grip features an extended trigger reach for more precise control.
The six-position telescoping M4-style buttstock and Mil-Spec buffer tube allow proper fitting for different shooters and varying outerwear levels, with an overall length of 32.25″ to 35.50″ and length of pull from 10.25″ to 13.50″.
