Designed by Major George Schofield for single-handed operation while mounted on horseback, the break-open action made this pistol an essential tool for U.S. Cavalry soldiers. The top break design allowed riders to quickly eject all six spent cartridges and reload without dismounting. This style of pistol gained fame in the hands of legendary figures like Jesse James and Wild Bill Hickok. The Schofield barrel latch operates by pulling it back with the thumb and incorporates the rear sight notch. This Taylor’s & Company model is built on a forged steel frame with a blued finish, case hardened components, and two-piece walnut grips, chambered in 45 Colt (LC) with a 7″ barrel and 6-round capacity cylinder.
